Designed and built a native AI sidecar platform using Tauri and Rust, combining MITM proxying, WebSocket pub/sub bridges, 164 schema normalizers/adapters, browser-extension coordination, Apple-native API access for Mail/Notes/iMessage/Calendar/system monitoring, WireGuard/OpenVPN capability concepts, structured extraction from social/webmail/CRM/ATS/LinkedIn systems, and a capability mesh where clients register what they can do and route work across browser, desktop, and mobile surfaces.
Browser extensions are powerful but sandboxed. Native apps can access local files, OS APIs, network interfaces, mail/calendar/message data, and system capabilities, but they introduce greater security risk and distribution complexity. A serious local AI platform needed both: browser context from the extension and native authority from a controlled sidecar. The challenge was making these capabilities discoverable, routable, permissioned, and auditable rather than hardcoded into one fragile app.
Based on user-provided project context. Omits private repositories, credentials, captured traffic, local user data, Apple API implementation details, adapter code, network configuration, and sensitive automation workflows. Native and MITM capabilities are framed as user-authorized and reviewable.
